I have been completely raw and vegan since 2004. During this time, I have read dozens and dozens of books on this lifestyle, including books on juicing and natural health. That being said, I did not think I stood to learn much more by reading The Raw Vegan Coach and I almost didn't buy it.
Since I respect Frederic's honest approach and I am always on the lookout to learn at least one new concept concerning raw veganism and natural health, I gave this book a shot. I was not disappointed.
While it is true that beginners to this diet will find a wealth of great, easy to understand information in this book, it is also a very useful resource for those already well acquainted with this lifestyle. Since it is simple for anyone to "look inside this book" here on Amazon and readily see the subjects addressed in the table of contents, I won't go into a listing of all the book covers.
Instead, I will confine this review to mentioning what I have been happy to learn by reading this book. First of all, I appreciate that Frederic explains exactly how many calories different types of people need per day as well as offers a simple means by which each person can determine what this is for themselves. The sections dealing with overeating and undereating on the raw diet are also very informative. In addition, I enjoyed the sections dealing with exactly how much fat is too much in a given day and, similarly, how much fruit is too little or too much for a given day. It turns out, my wife and I were undereating both fruit and fat with the mistaken notion that greens are the most important component to this diet. We have since taken the advice in this book, listened to our bodies, and feel much better off. Finally, I love that Frederic devotes a good portion of this book to troubleshooting on the raw vegan diet.
Frederic chose to write this book in a question and answer format and I found that to be very helpful. First of all, this style makes for a more detailed, concise presentation of information. One need not read through information they do not need in order to get to information they are most interested in. This format also enables easier referencing.
My only minor suggestion is I wish the book might have included an index. This would have afforded even easier referencing. Still, I definitely recommend this book to anyone seeking to expand their knowledge of the raw vegan diet and improve upon their health.
