As a writer and lover of sci-fi and post-apocalyptic fiction, I have often wondered what would happen if, all of a sudden, there were major cataclysms in the world and our food supply vanished. What would I do? What would everyone do? I don't think I'm in the minority; I believe that the majority of people worldwide would be at a loss if they could not go to the grocery store to buy their food. Vickie Shufer's book is the answer. I found the book to be excellent, informative, educational, and interesting. Written in an easy, reader-friendly style, Vickie does not "talk down" to the novice, but rather, talks to the reader as if talking to an old friend. She provides excellent tips on identifying, harvesting and preparing wild fruits and vegetables. She also has a section that focuses on identifying healing and medicinal plants. This is something we desperately need in a world of processed foods that are laden with chemicals and pesticides. There could easily come a day when we don't have food available "at the store." One of my favorite quotes is from Hippocrates. He said: "Our food should be our medicine. Our medicine should be our food." Vickie, who is an acclaimed naturalist and who leads foraging and wilderness survival programs through her company, Ecoimages, is someone who uses food like medicine. And, this book shows all of us how we can do that, too. Buy it today and start learning how to enjoy nature's real food!
